A beautiful rug can add so much to a home and be an attractive centre piece for any living space, so if you choose have a good rug in your home its important to keep it clean and maintain your prized rug in the the standard that you required it be and indeed with some simple exercises you can keep your rug in as good a condition as the day you bought it. Here are four great tips to help maintain your rug and keep it looking beautiful.
Firstly, make sure you clean up any stains or spillages as soon as they happen. You can scrape or blot spillage up depending on what type of spill it is, using a clean white cotton dry towel and pressing down on the spill starting from the outside and gradually working in untill you reach the centre of the spillage. Do this repeatedly until you have finally mopped up all of the spill and picked up as much of the moisture as you possibly can. Make sure you also mop it up in straight lines instead of circles. If you find that milk has been spilt then ensure to put some detergent on the area to prevent odours from souring the air.
Secondly, wathc out when using shampoo or sprays as shampoos are especially not usually made for wool area rugs but for synthetic carpet. After applying any shampoo, make sure you rinse out the area of the rug you have applied it to as it willl attract dirt and dust if left alone. To test this, a good thing to do is to use a damp white cotton towell to ensure the colours do not blead.
Thirdly, do not vacuum fringes or tassels as they tend to get sucked into the beater bar of your vacuum. the fringes do not need to be vacuumed as much, as usually fluffing them by hand is all that you need to on that kind of occasion.
Fourthly, each month, a great best practice is to flip the rug upside down and give a good vacuum on its undersideso all the unwanted fibers, hairs and dirt that get stuck underneath your beautiful rug will be removed so that even though they are not seen as they would be on the other side of your rug, it is better to deal with them on a regular and timely basis.
